In a surprising turn of events, the Labour Party, under the leadership of Julius Abure, has rescinded the automatic presidential nomination originally granted to Peter Gregory Obi for the 2027 elections. This decision also extends to the automatic re-election ticket for Abia State Governor, Alex Otti.

During a recent meeting of the National Executive Council (NEC) in Abuja, Abure announced that the presidential candidacy will now be accessible to all party members. “After careful consideration, the NEC has overturned its previous resolution to allocate the Presidential and Governorship nominations specifically to Peter Obi and Alex Otti. As a result, all positions, from the Presidency down to the House of Assemblies, are now open to qualified Nigerians,” Abure stated at a press conference.

The Labour Party also expressed disapproval of a recent stakeholders’ gathering convened by Governor Otti in Abia State, deeming it illegal and in violation of the party’s constitution. Abure asserted that Otti lacks the authority to orchestrate such meetings.

“We find ourselves at a pivotal juncture in our party’s journey,” Abure declared, accusing both Obi and Otti of creating discord by attempting to establish a new leadership structure without the NEC’s endorsement.
