Nigerian comedienne, Anita Asuoha, widely known as Real Warri Pikin, has shared her emotional story about a past suicide attempt, which stemmed from a N22 million debt her family incurred.
In a heartfelt post on her Instagram page on Wednesday, Asuoha revealed how financial struggles led to her darkest moment. She explained that the situation worsened after her husband, inspired by a motivational speaker, ventured into several businesses in hopes of financial success. Unfortunately, these ventures backfired, leaving the family in substantial debt.
Speaking in observance of World Suicide Prevention Day, the comedian recounted how the overwhelming pressure drove her to attempt suicide in June 2018.
“I tried suicide so you don’t have to,” she said. “On June 6, 2018, at exactly 3 pm, I attempted to take my life. I felt like life was hitting me from all sides and the weight was unbearable. Life was spinning me around like a barber’s chair, and I thought the only escape was to end the pain.”
Asuoha shared that a family member’s timely intervention saved her life during that difficult moment.
Reflecting on the experience, she urged her followers not to consider suicide as an option, emphasizing that life, though tough, has seasons and phases. “Suicide is making a permanent decision to a temporary problem. Hold on to God and do what you can within your power,” she advised.
Asuoha previously opened up about how depression led her to discover her comedy talent. In 2019, she revealed, “I found comedy through depression. I used to dance, host events, and do stand-up comedy in school, but I never took it seriously. When I hit rock bottom last year, I started making funny motivational videos to lift others, and that’s how my comedy journey began.”
