The House of Representatives has postponed its annual recess, originally set for Tuesday, September 17, 2024. The new resumption date is now scheduled for Tuesday, September 24, 2024.

Hon. Akin Rotimi, Chairman of the House Committee on Media and Public Affairs, announced the change in a statement to Parliamentary Correspondents on Wednesday. He cited the need to accommodate the inauguration of the new board of the Public Complaints Commission (PCC) and the establishment of the Joint Senate/House Ad-hoc Committees on the Petroleum Industry investigation as reasons for the delay.

The rescheduling was communicated to members via an internal memo from Dr. Yahaya Danzaria, Esq., the Clerk of the House, following directives from House Leadership.

Rotimi explained, “During the recess, Honourable Members will be engaged in extensive constituency outreach, addressing critical issues and enhancing oversight of ministries, departments, and agencies (MDAs) as outlined in the 1999 Constitution (As Amended) and the House Standing Orders.”

Upon reconvening, the House leadership will inaugurate the new PCC board and the Joint Senate/House Ad-hoc Committees on the Petroleum Industry Investigation on Wednesday, September 25, 2024. Additional details on these activities will be provided during the resumption plenary session.

As the 10th Assembly resumes, it will continue to advance its Legislative Agenda, focusing on impactful reforms aimed at national development and fulfilling its mandate to the Nigerian people.
