President Bola Tinubu has been likened to an experienced captain set to guide Nigeria out of its current circumstances. This assertion was made by Senator George Akume, Secretary to the Government of the Federation, during a visit from the management team of the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Wednesday in Abuja.
The NAN delegation, headed by Managing Director Ali M. Ali, included Director of Administration Abdulhadi Khaliel and Editor-in-Chief Ephraims Sheyin.
The purpose of their visit was to update Akume on the upcoming inaugural Annual International Lecture organized by NAN, scheduled for October 3. The lecture will focus on the theme, “Insecurity in the Sahel (2008-2024): Analyzing Nigeria’s Challenges—Origins, Effects, and Solutions.”
Akume characterized the state of Nigeria as akin to a pilot navigating through rough weather conditions. He emphasized that such a pilot must possess considerable experience to ensure a safe landing.
“It’s a fact that Nigeria is facing numerous turbulent challenges,” he stated. “President Tinubu’s administration resembles an aircraft taking off amidst stormy weather; managing such a flight is undoubtedly difficult.”
“However, a skilled pilot knows the destination and is aware of the challenges ahead while remaining committed to a secure landing. That is why Tinubu is described as a veteran captain who will lead us to safety,” he remarked.
In praising NAN’s upcoming lecture as a ‘remarkable initiative,’ Akume highlighted the vital role that media plays in communicating government policies and programs to the public.
“This is indeed a fantastic initiative. It is impossible to conduct any significant summit or conference in our country today without addressing the pressing issue of security.”
“For those of you in the media, your role is crucial, and that’s why your upcoming lecture is one of the ways you contribute by disseminating information about government policies,” he added.
The SGF elaborated that the current administration has restructured the security framework, noting that gradual improvements are beginning to manifest across the nation.
