Peter Obi, the 2023 presidential candidate from the Labour Party, has expressed his willingness to serve as Nigeria’s Vice President in the future, provided certain conditions are met.
The former Governor of Anambra State shared his thoughts during a recent interview which was broadcast on YouTube.
Obi emphasized that his primary objective is to facilitate Nigeria’s advancement. He believes that the upcoming 2027 general election requires robust leadership to foster meaningful transformation.
When questioned about the possibility of accepting the Vice Presidency, Obi responded, “Honestly, I’m not eager to hold the presidency of Nigeria. My true desire is to see Nigeria thrive. If I encounter individuals who can perform the role more effectively, I would consider stepping into the Vice Presidential position.”
He added, “I have people advising me not to run in 2027, and I tell them, put yourself forward. We shouldn’t judge everyone on the same scale.”
While he remains open to collaboration, Obi firmly stated that he has no intention of leaving the Labour Party. “I will remain with the Labour Party. If anyone wishes to negotiate or form alliances, they must clarify their intentions. I will not associate with anyone merely for political gains or electoral victories.”
Obi insisted on a clear agenda, stating, “I want to know how we will ensure that no child is left behind and how we will reintegrate millions of out-of-school children into education.”
In the 2023 presidential election, Obi secured third place, garnering over 6 million votes, which represented approximately 25.4% of the total votes cast. The election was won by Bola Tinubu of the All Progressives Congress (APC), who received nearly 8.8 million votes (37.6%), while Atiku Abubakar of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) came in second with about 7 million votes (29.9%).
