A tragic incident occurred this afternoon in the Onipanu area of Lagos State, where a young banker, who recently secured a job, was struck by an overspeeding vehicle while returning from work.

The unfortunate accident took place around 3:15 p.m., as eyewitnesses reported that the banker, whose identity has yet to be confirmed, was attempting to cross the road when the speeding car lost control and hit him. Sadly, the impact was fatal, and he died on the spot.

Residents of the area have expressed shock and sorrow over the incident, with many calling for stricter traffic enforcement in the area to curb reckless driving. One witness said, “This is heartbreaking. He was just starting his career, and now his life is cut short.”

The driver of the vehicle fled the scene but was later apprehended by local authorities after a brief pursuit. The Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) and the Nigeria Police Force have since cordoned off the area and are conducting investigations.

This tragic event has once again highlighted the need for greater awareness of road safety and stricter measures to prevent such accidents in the city. The body of the deceased has been taken to a nearby morgue, while the driver is currently in police custody awaiting further interrogation.

Authorities urge motorists to adhere to speed limits and exercise caution, especially in residential and pedestrian-heavy areas.
