Francis Alimikhena, a former federal legislator from Edo North, has made a significant political shift by leaving the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to align himself with the All Progressives Congress (APC).

This change in allegiance occurs just one week prior to the gubernatorial elections scheduled for September 21 in Edo State.

Zibiri Muhammed, a prominent APC member from the Etsako West Local Government Area, confirmed the news of Alimikhena’s transition to reporters on Saturday.

“Yes, Senator Alimikhena has officially joined the APC. He will be making his switch public today,” he stated.

“Alimikhena is set to be welcomed by our party’s National Chairman, Abdullahi Ganduje, during our grand finale rally at the UNIBEN sports complex,” he added in his remarks to The PUNCH.

Muhammed noted that the former senator was seen attending campaign events alongside leaders from other political parties.

Alimikhena, who previously served two terms in the Senate under the APC banner, had shifted to the PDP after losing the senatorial race for Edo North to Senator Adams Oshiomhole during the primary elections for the 2023 general elections.

Following this defeat, he joined the PDP and contested in the National Assembly election, but was unable to unseat Oshiomhole.
