A high court in Kano State, under the leadership of Chief Judge Justice Dije Abdu Aboki, has issued a temporary injunction preventing the 15th Emir of Kano, Aminu Ado Bayero, from undertaking renovations at the Nasarawa mini palace.
Emir Bayero has been conducting his official duties from the palace since returning to Kano after the dissolution of the emirates.
The plaintiffs in this case include the state government, the attorney general of the state, and the Kano Emirate, with Bayero as the sole defendant.
The court’s order mandates that all parties involved maintain the current state of the palace’s structural and architectural features until the case is heard and resolved.
Justice Aboki stated, “An order of interim injunction is hereby made, restraining the defendant, along with his agents, representatives, or anyone acting under his authority, from demolishing, renovating, repairing, reconstructing, or refurbishing the property known as Gidan Sarki Nasarawa, located along the state road in Kano, pending the hearing and determination of the motion on notice before this court.”
According to court documents reviewed by our reporter, the applicants submitted an ex parte application dated September 9, which was supported by a 33-paragraph affidavit sworn by Matawallen Kano, Alhaji Ibrahim Ahmed.
The court also ordered that the Emir be served with the legal documents through alternative means and set October 2 as the date for the hearing of the motion on notice.
