Manchester United defender Matthijs De Ligt has been named in the Premier League best team of the match day four.

The Dutch international made the cut following his superb performance for his club Manchester United in their 3-0 classic win at the St Mary’s over Southampton.

The Red Devils defender was drafted into the starting Lineup at the South Coast after what appeared to be a bad international outing which cost him his place right at the start of the second half against Germany.

De Ligt made an obvious error that led to a goal which made his national team coach Ronald Koeman withdrew him immediately after half time.

But the trust that Erik Ten Hag has for his former captain at Ajax made him play him against Southampton above former United captain Harry Maguire.

The 24-year old repaired the trust and scored the opening goal against the Saints after a diving header to meet Bruno Fernandes’ cross at the far post.

He was however named Man of the match following his solid performance which earned United their best win of the season so far.
