The North Central All Progressive Congress (APC) Forum has urgently appealed to President Bola Tinubu for immediate action regarding the repair of federal roads throughout the region.
During a media briefing in Jos, the capital of Plateau State, on Tuesday, Chairman Saleh Zazzaga emphasized the pressing need for infrastructure improvement as part of the Forum’s agenda for its upcoming quarterly meeting scheduled for October.
Zazzaga remarked, “One of the foremost issues on our agenda is the significant development gap affecting the North-Central region, particularly highlighted by the deteriorating condition of federal roads.”
He urged President Tinubu to prioritize road reconstruction efforts in the area, stressing, “The North-Central region plays a vital role in sustaining our democracy, contributing to APC victories, and supporting President Tinubu’s leadership. Therefore, it is essential for the citizens to reap the benefits of good governance.”
Highlighting the dire situation, Zazzaga noted that the North-Central has the worst road conditions among the three northern zones. He explained how the poor state of the roads has resulted in considerable challenges for the population, leading to preventable accidents and tragic loss of life over the years.
Specific roads mentioned by Zazzaga that require urgent attention include the Jos-Akwanga road, Makurdi-Oturkpo-Otukpa road, Jos-Saminaka/Kaduna road, and several others, which collectively illustrate the scale of the problem.
In addition, Zazzaga called upon governors from the North-Central region to take initiative in road repairs as necessary, suggesting that they seek reimbursement from the Federal Government, similar to practices in other states where local governments have reconstructed federal roads.
