The Nigeria Security and Civil Defense Corps (NSCDC), Kwara State Command, has apprehended an 18-year-old boy, Olawumi Ayomide, over allegations of theft and arson. The young suspect was accused of stealing foodstuffs and subsequently setting a residence ablaze in the early hours of the morning.

According to a statement released by the NSCDC spokesperson, the incident took place in a local community where Ayomide was reported to have unlawfully entered a household, stealing food items such as rice, beans, and other provisions. In an unexpected twist, Ayomide allegedly set the building on fire before fleeing the scene.

Community members alerted authorities after discovering the blaze, and firefighters were able to prevent the fire from spreading to nearby houses. Fortunately, no casualties were reported, but significant property damage occurred.

NSCDC officials acted swiftly, tracking down the suspect and taking him into custody for questioning. The Commandant of the NSCDC in Kwara State, while addressing the press, assured the public that the law would take its course, emphasizing the command’s commitment to ensuring the safety of residents and their properties.

The case is currently under investigation, and Ayomide is expected to be charged with theft and arson in a court of law.
