Nnaji Treasure Chidiogo, a medical graduate from Babcock University, has made history by achieving an extraordinary academic feat. During the university’s 9th induction ceremony for medical doctors, Nnaji became the first student in the institution’s College of Health and Medical Sciences to break two significant academic records. She earned nine distinctions and became the first medical doctor in the history of the university to achieve a distinction in Community Health.
Nnaji’s outstanding academic performance was celebrated during the induction of 93 newly qualified medical doctors by the Medical and Dental Council of Nigeria (MDCN). Her achievement did not go unnoticed, as the Ogun State branch of the Nigerian Medical Association (NMA) awarded her a N200,000 cash gift and a commemorative plaque in recognition of her excellence.
At the ceremony, Babcock University’s Vice Chancellor, Prof. Ademola Tayo, praised the new doctors and urged them to maintain a patient-centered approach in their medical practice. He emphasized the importance of serving the health needs of their patients over pursuing financial gain. Prof. Tayo also called for greater collaboration among healthcare professionals to tackle public health issues, including recurring diseases such as Lassa Fever, which continue to affect communities in Nigeria.
Prof. John Sotunsa, the Provost of the Benjamin Carson College of Health and Medical Sciences at Babcock University, highlighted Nnaji’s remarkable achievement. He noted that over 20 medical graduates had earned distinctions, but Nnaji’s academic record stood out as the highest in the institution’s history. In his speech, Prof. Sotunsa also advised the new doctors to communicate effectively with their patients, stressing the crucial role of clear communication in ensuring better health outcomes.
Additionally, Prof. Sotunsa linked the fight against corruption to improvements in the healthcare sector. He encouraged the new medical professionals to uphold ethical standards in their practice, as corruption in any form can negatively impact the quality of healthcare delivery and the country’s health indices.
Nnaji Treasure Chidiogo’s record-breaking performance is a source of inspiration for current and future medical students. Her dedication, hard work, and commitment to academic excellence set a new standard for students in the medical profession, encouraging them to aim for excellence in their studies and careers.
Her success has further cemented Babcock University’s reputation for producing top-tier medical professionals who are ready to meet the healthcare needs of Nigeria and beyond. As Nnaji embarks on her medical career, her achievements serve as a reminder of the power of perseverance, dedication, and passion for one’s field.
