Nigerian cross-dresser Idris Okuneye, popularly known as Bobrisky, has taken legal action against online activist VeryDarkMan (VDM) following the release of an audio recording shared by VDM on social media.

The audio allegedly features Bobrisky discussing how he bribed officials of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) with N15 million to drop a money laundering charge filed against him earlier this year.

The recording also implicated certain Nigerian Correctional Service (NCS) officials, accusing them of allowing Bobrisky to serve a six-month jail sentence outside the prison facility.

Bobrisky, however, has denied the authenticity of the audio, claiming that it was artificially generated using AI technology. In response, his legal team has issued a demand for VDM to immediately take down the post, issue a public apology, and pay N1 billion in damages.

The letter, shared by Bobrisky on his Facebook page, reads in part: “We demand, on behalf of our client, a written apology published in two national daily newspapers, a video recording of your apology to our client shared on all your social media platforms, a commitment to refrain from reporting or publishing defamatory content against our client, and the payment of N1,000,000,000 in damages within 24 hours of this letter.”

Bobrisky’s legal team is also requesting that VDM refrain from further spreading defamatory content, and failure to meet the demands within the stipulated timeframe may result in further legal action.
