The French National team will be losing a member of their triumphant 2018 FIFA World Cup squad after he announced his retirement from international football.
Antoine Griezmann earlier on Monday announced his retirement from international football.
The Atlético Madrid star, who has been a key player for France for over a decade, will no longer represent his country.
“Thanks for all the memories of this wonderful chapter, it’s time for me to say goodbye,” Griezmann said in a statement.
Griezmann’s decision comes after a successful career with France, which included winning the 2018 FIFA World Cup and reaching the final of the 2022 World Cup edition.
He is also France’s all-time leading scorer in major tournaments after netting a total of 44 goals while providing 38 assists to the National team during his time.
Griezmann’s retirement marks the end of an era for French football after the 33-year old won one FIFA World Cup, the Nations League, played in two FIFA world cup finals, one appearance in the Euros final while also holding the record for most assists in French National team history.
The former Barcelona forward will be remembered for his services to the French National team and the development of football in France as a whole.
