A tragic accident occurred on Sunday night at Gagarawa village in Ringim Local Government Area of Jigawa State, where a commercial bus driver, allegedly speeding, rammed into a group of 15 children celebrating Maulud, an Islamic ceremony.

According to a press statement issued by the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), DSP Lawal Shiisu Adams, the incident took place when a 52-year-old driver, Usman Idris from Doko village in Garki Local Government Area, lost control of his Volkswagen Sharon vehicle with registration number Kano NSR 452 ZX.

The driver was reportedly heading from Gashuwa in Yobe State to Kano State when he lost control and collided with the children.

The statement revealed that six children tragically lost their lives, while nine others sustained injuries and were immediately transported to Ringim General Hospital for medical treatment.

The medical team on call confirmed the death of six victims, whose bodies were later released to their families for burial.

DSP Adams further noted that the remaining nine injured victims are currently receiving medical care. The police have taken the driver and the vehicle into custody to maintain order and prevent further escalation in the area.
