Ex-President Goodluck Jonathan Celebrates Nigeria’s 64th Independence Anniversary, Calls for Stronger Institutions and Inclusive Growth.

As Nigeria marks its 64th Independence anniversary, former President Goodluck Ebele Jonathan has praised the country’s achievements across various sectors, urging citizens to celebrate their progress despite challenges.

In his Independence Day message, Jonathan reflected on Nigeria’s journey since 1960, acknowledging the nation’s advancements and resilience. He stated, “Today, we mark a significant milestone in our nation’s history.

It is the 64th Anniversary of Nigeria’s independence when we remember and adore our nationalists who fought and brought an end to colonial rule.”

Highlighting the strides made since the end of military rule in 1999, Jonathan emphasized the importance of sustained democracy and economic growth.

“We have sustained our democracy in this 4th Republic for 25 years and recorded perceptible growth in our economy,” he noted, adding that the nation has remained united despite numerous challenges.

However, the former president stressed that for Nigeria to fully realize its potential, the country must strengthen its institutions and prioritize peaceful, free, fair, and transparent elections.

He also called on Nigerians to recommit to the principles of justice, equity, and inclusion, emphasizing the need for leaders to harness the country’s diversity and tap into the potential of the youth.

Jonathan acknowledged the significant challenges that remain, particularly in areas such as security, economic growth, national cohesion, and infrastructure development.

He urged Nigerians to stay optimistic, resilient, and committed to the nation’s progress, saying, “With a common purpose, zeal, and love for one another, we can overcome our challenges and build a prosperous nation of our collective dreams, where every citizen has equal opportunities to thrive.”
