The Kogi State Government has received 10 CNG buses from the federal government to help reduce transportation costs in the state.

The handover ceremony for the buses, part of the Clean Initiatives Project (CIP), took place in Lokoja on Wednesday.

During the ceremony, Kogi State Governor Alhaji Ahmed Ododo commended President Ahmed Bola Tinubu for this initiative.

Represented by his Deputy, Elder Joel Salihu, the governor highlighted that the state is committed to this initiative aimed at lowering transportation expenses.

Governor Ododo emphasized that his administration has finalized plans to support and participate in any initiative that benefits the citizens.

He stated, “Our administration is determined to achieve this through collaboration with all road transport unions in the state.

Under this new initiative, 250 youths from across the 21 local government councils will receive specialized training in key areas such as CNG conversion, welding and fabrication, automobile mechatronics, and solar system installation.”

He added that the program would begin once the modalities are finalized with their partner, the Nigeria-Korea Friendship Institute (NKFI).

The Minister of Steel, Alhaji Shaibu Abubakar Audu, also spoke at the event, noting that President Tinubu’s Renewed Hope agenda has reached the masses.

He remarked on the potential 40 percent reduction in transportation costs through the use of CNG vehicles, stating that it represents a significant development.

He further explained that the decision to address the economic challenges was urgent, as the economy was on the verge of collapse.

“Ajaokuta Steel Company will play a crucial role in this initiative, as Ajaokuta serves as a hub for gas, which can be utilized in various sectors,” he said.

Engr. Michael Oluwagbemi, the Project Director and Chief Executive Officer of the Presidential CNG Initiative, also addressed the audience, stating that this initiative aims to reduce transportation fares for Nigerians.

“The conversion will be free, as promised by the federal government. We should focus on the opportunity to lower transportation costs. The goal of this initiative is to alleviate the hardships faced by the people. All commercial vehicles will be converted at no cost,” he assured.
