The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Abia State has declared its intention to withdraw from the local government elections set for November 2, 2024. This announcement was made during a collaborative meeting between the party’s state executives and local government chairpersons in Umuahia.

The main reason for the party’s decision stems from the absence of official communication from the Abia State Independent Electoral Commission (ABSIEC).

Engr. Sterling Uruakpa, the State Assistant Secretary and acting Publicity Secretary of the APC, expressed that the party will not depend on information shared through social media regarding the elections. He highlighted the necessity for ABSIEC to utilize formal and official channels to provide critical updates and information to the party.

The APC underscored the importance of transparency and inclusivity in the electoral process to uphold credibility among all stakeholders involved.

Uruakpa emphasized, “The All Progressives Congress is the ruling party in Nigeria and the largest political party in Africa. We will not accept any form of disrespect or contempt from ABSIEC.

“ABSIEC must adhere to due process in its operations, ensure inclusiveness, and create a fair environment for all parties to foster confidence and trust among political entities and the electorate.”
