The ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) has advised the opposition to abandon any thoughts of policy reversal by the government led by President Bola Tinubu and instead rally behind the administration’s Renewed Hope agenda.
In response to allegations from the opposition regarding the rigging of the September 21 governorship election in Edo State, the APC firmly rejected claims that it is attempting to establish a one-party system and impose totalitarian rule in Nigeria.
During a Board of Trustees (BoT) meeting on Thursday, the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) accused the APC of manipulating the Edo election as part of its strategy to convert Nigeria into a one-party state.
After the meeting at the PDP national secretariat in Abuja, Senator Adolphus Wabara, the BoT Chairman, voiced concerns about the worsening socio-economic conditions in the country, attributing the decline to the policies of the APC-led government.
In reaction to these allegations on Friday, the APC’s Director of Publicity, Alhaji Bala Ibrahim, spoke to Daily Trust, asserting that the ruling party has no intention of undermining democracy.
Ibrahim stated, “As the ruling party, the APC is committed to upholding democratic principles. We are not looking to impose anything that could harm democracy.”
He emphasized that the APC is a progressive party focused on implementing changes that deliver the benefits of democracy to citizens. “A thriving democracy requires a constructive opposition, not a destructive one,” he added.
Highlighting the mismanagement of the country under the PDP, Ibrahim pointed out that “Nigerians are beginning to grasp the true meaning of change.”
He assured that the policies of the APC-led government are not detrimental to the people but are designed to improve their socio-economic conditions shortly. Ibrahim urged the opposition to set aside thoughts of policy reversal and support the government’s initiatives.
