American International School Demands $760k Refund for Yahaya Bello’s Children’s Fees: EFCC Urged for Banking Details Amid Money Laundering Probe”
In a bold move, the American International School of Abuja (AISA) has called upon the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) to provide “authentic banking details” for the reimbursement of fees paid for the children of Yahaya Bello, former governor of Kogi state.
Addressing the EFCC’s Lagos zonal commander, AISA revealed that a staggering sum of $845,852 had been paid in tuition fees for Bello’s children, ranging from grade levels 2 to 8, since September 7, 2021. However, amidst ongoing investigations into alleged money laundering activities involving the Bello family, the school is seeking a refund of $760,910 after deducting for educational services rendered.
In a pointed letter, AISA emphasized the need for an official request from the EFCC, accompanied by the requisite banking details, to facilitate the refund process. Furthermore, the school vowed to alert the anti-graft agency should any further deposits be made by the Bello family.
The statement, signed by Greg Hughes, shed light on Ali Bello’s request to prepay his family’s school fees until graduation, underscoring the gravity of the situation.
This latest development comes on the heels of revelations that Yahaya Bello transferred $720,000 from government coffers to a bureau de change to prepay his child’s school fees. With Bello now declared wanted by the EFCC and placed on a watchlist by the NIS, the demand for a refund from AISA adds a compelling twist to the unfolding saga.
