Mr Shola Ladoja, son of the Otun Olubadan of Ibadanland and chairman of the Shola Ladoja Foundation, has partnered with the Oyo State government to enhance the quality of education in the state. This collaboration includes providing essential infrastructure and teaching aids.

During the recent flag-off ceremony for the renovation of classroom blocks at Progressives Day School in Aladorin, Ibadan Southwest local government area, Ladoja expressed his deep commitment to the education sector. He emphasized that improving education should not solely be the government’s responsibility, leading him to invest millions of naira in the school’s renovation.

Ladoja stated, “There is a need for the organized private sector and well-meaning individuals to partner with the state government in its efforts to elevate educational standards.”

Having visited Progressives Day School on multiple occasions, Ladoja identified various needs, including classroom renovations to meet the standards set by the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) and the provision of computer sets.

He plans to fund the renovation and equipment through contributions from friends, both locally and internationally, viewing this initiative as part of his Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR). “It is always good to give back to society,” he added.

Ladoja highlighted his personal connection to the school, noting that both his father, the Otun Olubadan, Oba Rasidi Ladoja, and Senator Sharafadeen Alli are alumni. He feels a strong obligation as an indigene of the state to contribute to its development.

“This gesture is not politically motivated; I have no interest in politics, despite my father’s political background,” Ladoja clarified.

He also mentioned that he has shared this vision with another prominent son of Ibadanland, Mr. Jide Aboderin, who has pledged to assist in providing computers worth millions of naira for the school.

Dr. Nureni Akanbi, Chairman of the State Universal Basic Education Board, urged other well-meaning citizens to collaborate with the government to improve educational standards. Represented by Mrs. K.F. Ademokoye at the event, he stated that the foundation’s efforts would significantly enhance education at the grassroots level.

Senator Sharafadeen Alli, another alumnus of the school, expressed his support for the project, promising to contribute to its successful completion.
