In a big turn of events, some factional members of the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP) have publicly renounced Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso’s authority as the party leader.

During a rally against the Kwankwasiya movement held at the party’s secretariat in Minna, Niger State, Dr. Gilbert Agbo, the factional National Chairman, declared that Kwankwaso and his supporters pose a threat to the party’s growth and survival.

Agbo emphasized that Kwankwaso’s suspension by the National Working Committee in Lagos effectively nullified his membership and influence within the party.

In a dramatic display of their discontent, Agbo oversaw the burning of the iconic red caps associated with the Kwankwasiya faction at the state party secretariat, signaling their intention to distance themselves from Kwankwaso’s group.

He also announced that Governor Kabir Yusuf of Kano State is expected to face the party’s disciplinary committee for not adhering to the party’s principles and hierarchy.

In response, Mallam Danladi Umar Abdulhamid, who leads the Kwankwasiya Movement in Niger State, criticized Agbo’s claim to the chairmanship as illegitimate. He argued that this action serves Agbo’s personal interests rather than those of the party members.

Abdulhamid reaffirmed that Kwankwaso continues to be recognized as the national leader of the NNPP, under the guidance of Dr. Ahmed Ajuji.
