The North-East chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has pointed fingers at the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), attributing widespread hardship experienced by Nigerians to the current federal administration’s failures.
Despite grappling with its own leadership crisis within the National Working Committee (NWC), the PDP remains adamant that it is the party capable of addressing the nation’s pressing challenges.
Following a meeting held in Bauchi on Wednesday, the zonal PDP declared itself the last hope for Nigerians, positioning itself as the ‘messiah’ needed for national salvation. The gathering reflected on the party’s previous 16 years in power, noting how it was ousted by the APC in 2015, and asserted that “The PDP years were indeed a blessing to the Nation.”
The assembly of the Zonal Working Committee, alongside the Chairpersons from the North-East Zone, was convened in response to the ongoing issues at the national level of the party.
Attendees engaged in thorough discussions aimed at strategizing for the party’s resurgence, culminating in a communiqué that was signed by Zonal Secretary Kabiru Bappa Jauro on behalf of Zonal Chairman Rev. Emmanuel Bovoa, and presented by Adamawa State Chairman Tahir Shehu.
The communiqué highlighted the PDP’s historical dominance in the North-East since the return to democracy in 1999, citing its contributions to the region’s socio-economic growth through various leadership roles, including a former Vice President and numerous governors and lawmakers.
Addressing the ongoing national chairmanship dispute, the meeting expressed unified support for the positions held by the Governors, Board of Trustees, National Assembly Caucus, and other critical stakeholders in the region, believing this alignment would foster a sense of decorum and propel the party to greater achievements.
Additionally, the meeting acknowledged the significant infrastructural advancements made by PDP governors in their respective states, urging them to continue building upon the strong foundation they have established.
