The Imo State Police Command has commenced an orderly room trial against four officers accused of extortion in a viral video by Young C Entertainment in Owerri.

The affected officers, Inspector Ibrahim Nainna, Unaka Maxvirgin, Inspector Miller Ibinitta, and Sergeant Antony Alozie have been detained by the police after the video of their alleged extortion went viral.

Spokesperson of the state Police Command, Henry Okoye disclosed this in a statement on Thursday, saying the trial was intended to ascertain the claims made by Young C Entertainment and prosecute indicted officers if proven. Meanwhile, the Commissioner of Police in the state, CP Aboki Danjuma on Thursday commenced a physical assessment of the suspects held in police cells within the Command.

Okoye said, “The Commissioner of Police in Imo state, CP Aboki Danjuma, and his management team are actively conducting inspections across various police divisions and tactical teams. This initiative aims to assess the conditions of suspects in detention and ensure that no individual is held beyond the legal limits. This move reflects a commitment to upholding the rights of detainees and improving overall police accountability”.

It will be recalled that a male online content promoter, Young C Entertainment had taken to social media to accuse operatives of the anti-narcotics unit, and state criminal investigation department of maltreatment, extortion, illegal arrest and detention and abandonment, among other accusations.

According to him, while in transit to shoot a movie, the four policemen stopped their vehicle, and despite repeated explanations that the fake currency on them was for movie production as printed on the papers, they were dumped in cell 12 with other suspects that threatened the life of one of them who suffered an asthma attack.

Further, he said there were several people denied access to food, family, and treatment, and were starving and languishing in cell 12.
