The Oyo State Government and the Organized Labour Unions have commenced discussions on implementing the newly approved N70,000 minimum wage by the Federal Government.

The talks also address the consequential adjustments and the application of the wage increase to reflect the updated structure.

Comrade Adeogun Ayobami, President of the Nigeria Union of Local Government Employees (NULGE) in Oyo State, shared this with reporters following the first meeting between the labor unions and the state government over the weekend.

He revealed that the meeting was in response to Oyo State Governor, Engr. Seyi Makinde’s recent announcement of the state’s readiness to adopt the ₦70,000 minimum wage for its workers.

Ayobami described the meeting as productive, noting that it laid the groundwork for swift negotiations on the consequential adjustments. He added that both parties agreed to gather the necessary data and tools to facilitate a smooth negotiation process, aiming for quick implementation.

“We appreciate your patience and understanding as we strive for fair and just outcomes for all workers and retirees in Oyo State. Further updates will be shared as negotiations progress,” he said.

Present at the meeting were Comrade Kayode Martins, Oyo State Chairman of NLC, representing PASSAN and JUSUN; Comrade Ayobami Adeogun for NULGE; Comrade Lawal O. Bolanle for the Health Workers Union of Nigeria (MHWUN); Comrade Raji Oladimeji Ismail for NUT; and Comrade Segun Abatan for NUP.
