The Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Lawal Pedro (SAN), has assured the public that the trial regarding the death of singer Ilerioluwa Aloba, popularly known as Mohbad, will soon commence.
During a press briefing on Monday, Pedro addressed concerns over the lengthy delay in the case, attributing it to an extensive investigation process. “The investigation includes forensic analysis and toxicology reports—vital elements in building a strong case that can secure a conviction in court,” he explained.
Pedro revealed that the forensic analysis had to be conducted in the United States due to the destruction of the Lagos DNA and Forensic Centre during the #EndSARS protests in October 2020. He confirmed that the reports from the U.S. have been received, and the autopsy results are now with the Lagos State Pathologist and the Coroner Magistrate.
“The delay now rests with Mohbad’s family, who have requested to conduct their independent autopsy,” Pedro stated. However, he reassured that the trial would begin soon, and justice would be served.
Pedro also addressed the delay in the plea bargain process for Chukwudumeme Nwamadike, also known as Evans, the notorious billionaire kidnapper. He mentioned that the plea agreement had been submitted to the panel advising the Attorney General’s office. Once reviewed and approved, the case will proceed to court.
In addition, Pedro touched on the case of a female lawyer, Otike-Odibi, accused of killing her husband, Symphorosa Otike-Odibi, and mutilating his body. He explained that the prosecution was delayed due to the loss of crucial documents when the Igbosere High Court was burned during the #EndSARS protests. Despite the setback, Pedro assured that the case would be thoroughly prosecuted.
