Two men, Ige Balogun and Sunday Ojo, appeared in the Chief Magistrates’ Court in Ado-Ekiti on Tuesday, charged with allegedly stealing 20 tubers of yam. Balogun, 20, and Ojo, 24, both of no fixed address, pleaded not guilty to the charge of theft. Prosecutor, Inspector Olasunkanmi Bamikole, told the court that the incident occurred on October 12 at around 11:30 a.m. in Ado-Ekiti, Ekiti State.

According to Bamikole, the defendants were accused of stealing the yams from a farm owned by the complainant, Mr Balogun Ali. The pair were reportedly caught by security guards and later handed over to the police.

The prosecutor explained that the offence contravenes Section 302 of the Criminal Law of Ekiti State, 2021. He requested an adjournment to review the case file and gather witnesses.

In defence, lawyer Timi Omotosho requested bail for his clients, assuring the court that they would comply with all legal obligations.

Chief Magistrate Taiwo Ajibade granted bail to both defendants, setting the amount at N5,000 each with one surety of the same value. The case was adjourned until November 21 for further mention.
