The National Association of Aircraft Pilots and Engineers (NAAPE) has confirmed that Captain Yakubu Dukas was among the victims of the helicopter crash that occurred offshore on October 24, 2024.

In a statement from the association’s president, Abednego Galadima, it was highlighted that Captain Dukas served as the vice president of NAAPE until his untimely death.

The statement reads: “We received, with great sadness, the news of the helicopter crash today. It is particularly heartbreaking that Captain Yakubu Dukas, a seasoned helicopter pilot with over 20 years of flying experience, was on board. Until this tragic accident, he held the position of Vice President of our esteemed union.

“We have always emphasized the necessity of optimal operating conditions in the aviation industry to ensure the safety of all professionals, as there is no room for error in the skies.

“We urge the government and all stakeholders to strive for zero accidents in their operations, recognizing the catastrophic consequences of air crashes.

“We also call on all relevant agencies to conduct thorough investigations into the immediate and underlying causes of this tragedy and to implement measures aimed at preventing future incidents.

“Our thoughts and prayers are with the families of all those affected by this incident.”
