Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu has underscored the pivotal importance of credit in driving economic growth.
He made these remarks during the opening of the inaugural National Credit Managers Conference and the annual Nigeria Credit Industry Awards, organized by the National Institute of Credit Administration (NICA) in Lagos.
The two-day event, themed “Credit Grows Green Economy,” attracted numerous stakeholders and industry leaders who shared insights on how to effectively incorporate credit into sustainable development initiatives across the country.
Represented by Alake Sanusi from the Lagos Debt Management Office, Sanwo-Olu emphasized that shifting towards a credit-driven economy is crucial for Nigeria’s progress, especially in promoting environmentally sustainable practices.
“This conference is timely as Nigeria navigates its economic landscape. We are striving to move away from a primarily cash-based system to one that thrives on credit—an economy that is not only efficient but also sustainable and inclusive,” he stated.
“A green economy supported by responsible credit practices is in perfect harmony with our shared objective of fostering growth that is environmentally sound, socially inclusive, and economically robust,” he added.
