The leadership of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Anambra State has expressed strong disapproval of President Bola Tinubu’s decision to appoint Ambassador Bianca Ojukwu as a minister-designate, labelling it an anti-party action.
During an urgent stakeholders’ meeting held in Awka on Thursday, the party leaders raised concerns about the president’s choice to appoint Ojukwu without prior consultation with party members.
They deemed this move a serious breach of party loyalty, arguing that it diminishes the morale of APC members in the state.
High Chief Bunty Onuigbo, the South East Zonal Secretary of the APC and a member of the APC Elders Forum in Anambra, voiced the stakeholders’ sentiments, stating that such actions do not promote loyalty within the party.
“This is nothing short of an anti-party act, and it is harmful. By favouring individuals from other political parties at the expense of APC members in Anambra, the president is neglecting party loyalty,” he asserted.
He further questioned whether President Tinubu intends to provoke a mass exodus of APC members in Anambra to the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), suggesting that the president might be inadvertently aiding APGA in the state.
Onuigbo described the situation as “unprecedented and deeply demoralizing,” lamenting that the leadership in Abuja appears to be bolstering rival parties while sidelining the APC.
“This is a faction that openly rejects the APC and wishes to distance themselves from us. By making such appointments, Mr. President is inadvertently endorsing them,” he added.
He concluded by announcing that APC stakeholders have resolved to formally communicate their concerns regarding these appointments to the state Chairman, Chief Basil Ejidike, for escalation to the National Working Committee and the National Executive Committee.
