Atiku Abubakar, the 2023 presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP),has expressed that his policy framework, titled ‘My Covenant with Nigerians,’ offers the most effective approach to addressing Nigeria’s long-standing issue of power outages.

He voiced his concerns regarding the extensive blackouts affecting the Southeast, Northwest, and Northeast regions of Nigeria, urging the relevant ministries and departments to act swiftly to restore power to these struggling areas.

In a post on X, Atiku highlighted the ongoing power crisis, stating, “The persistent blackout in Nigeria remains a significant concern, particularly in the Southeast and across the Northwest and Northeast, where complete blackouts have persisted for the last three weeks.”

He emphasized the urgency for government agencies responsible for the electricity situation to intervene promptly and restore power to the affected geopolitical zones.

“At the same time, I reaffirm my belief that my proposed solutions, outlined in my Policy Document ‘My Covenant with Nigerians,’ represent the most proactive strategy to lead our nation out of this continuous darkness,” he stated.

Additionally, the former Vice President advocated for the decentralization of the electricity sector, stressing the need to remove the electricity value chain from the exclusive legislative list. “States should be empowered to generate, transmit, and distribute electricity independently,” he asserted.
