The Kano State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has voiced strong criticism regarding the local government elections held on Saturday, October 26, 2024, calling the process fundamentally undemocratic.

This condemnation was articulated by the newly elected PDP chairman, Yusuf Kibiya, during his inaugural press conference on Monday, following his election to lead the party in Kano State.

Kibiya asserted that the elections were severely flawed and did not reflect a free or fair democratic process. “What transpired under the guise of local government elections in the state was evident for all to see. The democratic process was entirely undermined, making it neither free nor fair,” he stated.

He further emphasized, “There was a complete absence of democracy; this lack of integrity is why we chose to boycott the elections.”

In his address, Kibiya expressed gratitude to party leaders and delegates for his election as the PDP chairman on October 12, 2024. He committed to tackling the challenges faced by the party during his tenure. He outlined his vision for the PDP, which includes strengthening democracy, fostering credible leadership, and implementing a comprehensive ten-year development plan.

Additionally, Kibiya promised to address various issues within the party, resolve ongoing leadership conflicts, and deepen institutional relationships. He also mentioned the importance of addressing social, educational, religious, and economic challenges affecting the state while maintaining high standards.

“I invite all citizens—both party members and non-members—to join us in this important movement. Together, we can forge a brighter future for our state. Your ideas, involvement, and advocacy are crucial as we aim for excellence and true service to our people,” he urged.

“Let us collaborate to establish a government that is responsive, transparent, and accountable. The moment for change is upon us, and together, we will achieve success. Success can only be realized if we unite and support one another,” he concluded.
