The Lagos State government has categorically refuted claims that Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu has taken legal action against the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) regarding an alleged scheme to prosecute him after his term ends.

In a statement issued by Lawal Pedro (SAN), the Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice in Lagos State, titled ‘RE: ‘Sanwo-Olu sues EFCC over alleged plan to arrest, prosecute him after tenure,’ it was made clear that Sanwo-Olu has never initiated a lawsuit or engaged any legal representative to act on his behalf regarding this matter.

“We have observed the circulating media reports entitled: ‘Sanwo-Olu Sues EFCC over alleged plan to arrest, prosecute him after tenure,’” the statement read. “It is important to clarify that Mr. Babajide Sanwo-Olu has not sued or authorized any legal action concerning this issue.”

Pedro further noted, “It is misleading to suggest that the Governor, who is protected by constitutional immunity and has nearly three years left in office, would seek legal counsel on such matters.”

He asserted that, to the best of his knowledge, the EFCC is not conducting any investigations against the Governor, nor has it ever summoned him or threatened any member of his staff with arrest.

The Attorney-General also mentioned that they are looking into how these claims emerged without their knowledge.

“To clarify any misunderstandings, Mr. Babajide Sanwo-Olu has consistently demonstrated exemplary service delivery and responsible management of public resources,” Pedro stated.

He concluded by assuring the public that Sanwo-Olu is focused on enhancing the livelihoods of Lagosians and has nothing to fear as he approaches the end of his term in May 2027.

“We urge media outlets to exercise caution regarding the reports they publish to avoid misleading the public,” he added.
