The Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oba Owolabi Olakulehin, Ige Olakulehin I, has extended his condolences to the victims and families affected by the tragic building collapse in Ibadan on Thursday.

In a press statement released by his Chief Press Secretary, Comrade Solomon Olugbemiga Ayoade, Oba Olakulehin condemned the incident, which reportedly occurred in the Jegede area of the Ona Ara Local Government Area, resulting in the loss of approximately ten lives and injuries to several others.

Describing the event as worrisome and unfortunate, Oba Olakulehin expressed heartfelt sympathy to those who lost their loved ones and the other victims involved. He emphasized the need for a thorough investigation into the matter, urging the state government and relevant stakeholders to take action.

The monarch called upon agencies such as the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) and the State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA) to provide immediate relief materials to support the victims and their families. He also stressed the importance of regulatory agencies and professionals in construction and town planning to fulfil their responsibilities and implement measures that would prevent similar incidents in the future.

In his statement, Oba Olakulehin said, “This is an incident that should be thoroughly investigated. It is a tragic occurrence that should be prevented in Ibadanland. The relevant agencies involved in building construction and town planning must take their responsibilities seriously.”

He urged experts in the construction field to ensure the proper materials are used and that all protocols are adhered to throughout the building process. Furthermore, he called on relevant professionals to extend support to those still receiving treatment from the incident.

Concluding his remarks, Oba Olakulehin prayed for the continued protection of lives and property in Ibadanland, Oyo State, and Nigeria during his reign. “Amen,” he added.
