The All Progressives Congress (APC) has successfully claimed eight chairmanship seats as preliminary results from the local government elections in Cross River State begin to emerge.

The APC has secured victories in several Local Government Areas (LGAs) following the elections held on November 2. The areas where the APC has triumphed include Abi, Akamkpa, Akpabio, Bakassi, Bekwarra, Etung, Obudu, and Odukpani.

This information was confirmed on Sunday by Ekong Boco, the chairman of the Cross River State Independent Electoral Commission (CROSIEC).

While announcing the results at the CROSIEC headquarters in Calabar, Boco revealed that in Abi LGA, APC candidate Egballa Bassey garnered 26,265 votes to secure his position.

In Akamkpa LGA, Akposi Felix from the APC achieved victory with 53,882 votes, while Effiom Effiong, also from the APC, won in Akpabio LGA with 25,164 votes.

For Bakassi LGA, Okon Etim of the APC emerged victorious with 12,117 votes, and Ushie Theresa claimed the chairmanship seat in Bekwarra LGA with 31,551 votes.

In the Etung local government area, Henry Njah won with a total of 18,727 votes, whereas Peter Undiandeye received an impressive 112,654 votes in another LGA.

Etim Asideo was declared the winner for Odukpani LGA after securing 41,368 votes.

Chairman Boco explained that delays in announcing the results were due to the challenging geographical conditions across the state, including long distances to the capital and poorly maintained roads in certain areas.
