Peter Obi, the Labour Party’s presidential candidate for the 2023 elections, has called on authorities to look into individuals who claim to receive financial alerts through prayer, suggesting that such assertions may indicate involvement in theft.

In a recent interview on Sunday, Obi emphasized the importance of hard work and productivity, arguing that divine favor comes to those who exert effort. He stated, “God can bless diligence; God can bless industriousness; God can bless an entire sector, but He cannot bless someone who is idle.”

Obi further declared, “Anyone who claims to have received an alert through prayer should be apprehended. They have likely taken someone else’s money. It’s that simple!”

In addition to this, Obi addressed the topic of tithing, suggesting that acts of kindness could serve as an alternative form of tithing. He remarked, “When you go to the hospital, that’s a form of tithing. Helping those in need is also tithing.”

Moreover, Obi urged political leaders who prioritize personal financial gain to reassess their motivations, stressing that genuine leadership should be about serving the community rather than seeking profit. “Leadership is not a money-making endeavor. You’re not in competition with Dangote; he’s a businessman. You must focus on your responsibilities as an elected official,” he explained.

He continued, “You need to define your role; if you choose to be in government, serve the people. If you wish to be a businessman, then engage in trade.”

Obi’s recent comments, including his suggestion to transform church vigils into productive night shifts, have sparked mixed reactions among Nigerians.
