President Bola Tinubu has directed the immediate release of all minors arrested and detained during the recent #EndBadGovernance protests, following widespread outrage over their treatment by authorities. The announcement was made by the Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, during a press briefing after a meeting of the Federal Executive Council (FEC) on Monday.

This decision comes amid mounting scrutiny and concern regarding the welfare of these minors, who were arrested by the Nigerian police and subjected to legal proceedings. “Mr President has directed the immediate release of all minors arrested by the Nigerian police,” Idris stated, addressing the public’s growing inquiries about the situation.

He acknowledged the distressing scenes observed in the courtroom last week, which have raised significant concerns among citizens.

Idris emphasized President Tinubu’s commitment to democracy and the rule of law, while also recognizing the humanitarian aspects of the issue. “This order is issued without prejudice to any ongoing legal processes,” he clarified, indicating a balance between legal obligations and compassion for the young individuals involved.

In addition to the release of the minors, Idris outlined several key actions mandated by the President, although further details are expected to be announced soon.
