Governor Alex Otti of Abia State has officially inaugurated the 17 local government chairmen elected in the recent elections held last Saturday.

The ceremony took place on Monday, where the newly elected officials were tasked with leading their local government areas (LGAs) under the guiding principle of “Abia first,” while committing to the socio-economic transformation of the State.

The Abia State Electoral Commission (ABSIEC) had previously awarded Certificates of Return to the newly elected chairmen, comprising 15 from the Zenith Labour Party (ZLP) and 2 from the Young Progressives Party (YPP) on Sunday.

During the swearing-in ceremony, Governor Otti emphasized the importance of focusing on the socio-economic development of Abia. He urged the chairmen to address longstanding issues affecting their communities, including access to clean water, essential healthcare and educational services, proper maintenance of roads, and effective responses to security challenges.

He stated, “Your primary mission is to tackle the fundamental problems that have troubled our people for years. Prioritizing access to water, basic healthcare, education, road maintenance, and security should be at the forefront of your agenda.”

Governor Otti expressed his expectation that the citizens would witness tangible improvements in their living conditions within the next six months, particularly for women, youth, and vulnerable populations across the various localities.
