Edo State Governor Godwin Obaseki expressed his desire to be remembered for more than just his numerous political confrontations.

During a press conference following the inauguration of the Airport Road Parks and Gardens, he responded to inquiries about his desired legacy after leaving office, stating, “Certainly not for the fights,” which seems to allude to the various political struggles he has encountered against rivals and former allies.

Regarding the sustainability of the newly commissioned project, Obaseki explained, “In planning for these public spaces, we also devised revenue models to ensure their ongoing management. For example, all income generated from billboards in this area will contribute to their upkeep, and Prestige Hotel is also committed to providing support for maintenance. Additionally, the military has pledged assistance in terms of security.”

He remarked on his belief in the value of action over celebration, indicating that while they will strive to inaugurate various projects, the number will only represent a fraction of the total accomplishments achieved during his tenure.

“I don’t expect to be commissioning more than 10 percent of what we have accomplished, which is why our constituents supported us in the elections,” he noted.

Obaseki expressed gratitude for the positive feedback from the community, saying, “I feel appreciated; the response from our people is truly commendable. It’s evident why they turned out to vote for us in such significant numbers. I can’t express enough how thankful I am for the opportunity to serve.”
