President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has directed the postponement of the Federal Executive Council (FEC) meeting, previously scheduled for Wednesday, to a date that will be announced later.
According to a statement by Bayo Onanuga, Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, the decision was made in honour of the late Chief of Army Staff, Lt. General Taoreed Lagbaja, who passed away on Tuesday night.
Lt. General Lagbaja, who served as the Chief of Army Staff since June 19, 2023, died on November 5, 2024. In his memory, President Tinubu, as Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, has ordered flags to be flown at half-staff nationwide for seven days.
Earlier on Wednesday, President Tinubu extended his heartfelt condolences to the Lagbaja family and the Nigerian Armed Forces, expressing his wishes for the general’s eternal peace and acknowledging his invaluable contributions to the nation.
