The Lagos State Government has announced the selection of 50 youth participants for the Ibile Youth Leadership Academy Training Camp, a significant initiative aimed at cultivating effective leadership for the future.
These 50 individuals were chosen from a pool of 500 applicants representing the five divisions of Lagos State: Ikeja, Badagry, Ikorodu, Lagos Island, and Epe (IBILE).
At a one-day leadership seminar and unveiling ceremony held at the Adeyemi Bero Auditorium in Alausa, Ikeja, Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, represented by Deputy Governor Dr. Kadri Obafemi Hamzat, reaffirmed the administration’s dedication to empowering young people for leadership positions within their communities.
Governor Sanwo-Olu highlighted that fostering an environment conducive to youth involvement, skill development, and representation in government is a top priority for his administration.
He noted that the state’s commitment to youth as a fundamental aspect of its development strategy is evident in the appointment of young leaders to significant roles in the Lagos State Government.
“We are focused on creating a nurturing environment for youth participation, skills enhancement, and representation in governance. This includes appointing young leaders to crucial positions within the Lagos State Government, providing them with an opportunity to hone their leadership skills while making meaningful contributions to the state’s advancement,” the governor stated.
Sanwo-Olu also pointed out that the Ibile Youth Academy, established in 2017, has been instrumental in nurturing young leaders throughout Lagos State.
The academy is designed to instil essential leadership qualities such as patriotism, volunteerism, discipline, integrity, resilience, collaboration, communication, and innovation—skills vital for success both locally and globally.
The governor stressed the importance of having youth with a strong sense of integrity and honour to contribute to nation-building. He encouraged young people to pursue continuous education beyond formal schooling, emphasizing that “while potential is important, it is hard work and integrity that truly yield results.”
