The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has cleared Mrs. Fauziya Danjuma Goje, daughter of Senator Danjuma Goje, of any involvement in the viral video showing the abuse of the Nigerian currency, Naira, during a wedding ceremony in Kano on October 24, 2024.

In a statement released today, the EFCC clarified that the incident, which had sparked widespread outrage, occurred at the wedding dinner of Amina Babagana Zannah, not Fauziya Goje’s wedding as initially reported.

Zannah, the daughter of Hajara Seidu Haruna, the CEO of Hafsat Jewellery Enterprise, confirmed the incident. According to Haruna, the Naira notes were sprayed by members of the groom’s family, who are from Niger Republic.

The EFCC has invited the groom, Ibrahim Mohammad, and other individuals involved in the act to report to the Commission’s national headquarters in Abuja for further questioning.

The EFCC reiterated its commitment to tackling currency abuse and emphasized that no individual, regardless of their status, would be spared if found guilty of violating the nation’s currency regulations.

The Commission also expressed appreciation for the growing public awareness of Naira abuse, a central focus of its ongoing campaigns.
