Dr. Doyin Okupe, a former spokesperson for the presidency, has clarified that he has never dismissed the possibility of President Bola Tinubu winning the 2027 elections.

In a statement released from Lagos, Okupe responded to various online media claims regarding his comments on the upcoming presidential race.

The ex-Director-General of Peter Obi’s Presidential Campaign Council reaffirmed his unwavering support for President Tinubu’s administration, emphasizing his belief in Tinubu’s vision to tackle Nigeria’s pressing challenges, which he attributes to previous administrations.

“It has come to our attention that certain online outlets, including the Daily Post, have published a misleading article falsely attributing statements to me concerning the 2027 presidential election,” Okupe stated.

The article incorrectly suggested that Okupe claimed the 2027 election would spell ‘Game Over’ for President Tinubu if the North were to nominate former President Goodluck Jonathan as a candidate.

“We must clarify that this report misrepresents my comments and is a clear distortion of my perspective,” he asserted.

Okupe explained that his original tweet referred to individuals he termed as pseudo-politicians who lack critical insight, suggesting that those who believe a joint ticket of former Vice President Atiku Abubakar and Mr. Peter Obi, or the North nominating Jonathan, could defeat President Tinubu are likely to be disappointed.

“This statement was made within the framework of political strategy,” he added.

He characterized the misrepresentation as a “notable instance of media manipulation aimed at misleading the public and inciting division.”

Okupe urged the public to remain vigilant against such deceptive narratives and to verify information before forming judgments.
