The All Progressives Congress (APC) has asserted that no amount of antics from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) will divert its attention from securing a win for its candidate, Lucky Ayedatiwa, in the upcoming governorship election in Ondo State.
In a statement made on Wednesday in Okitipupa, APC Campaign Council Spokesman Mr. Banji Okunomo addressed the media regarding PDP’s claims of potential electoral fraud orchestrated by the APC.
Okunomo characterized PDP’s accusations as a clear sign of their frustration and lack of preparedness for the election.
He highlighted that while the dedicated APC has been actively campaigning across the state, the opposition party has resorted to making unfounded claims instead of focusing on their campaign efforts.
“Instead of engaging in meaningful campaigning, they are merely spreading baseless allegations regarding supposed election rigging,” Okunomo stated.
He questioned, “If there were any plans for such actions, why would APC engage in the extensive and vigorous campaigning we have conducted over the past weeks?”
The spokesman emphasized that the APC has no intention of compromising the integrity of the electoral process, asserting their commitment to adhere to the rules set by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
“We will not undermine the election process; our extensive mobilization during the campaigns has been sufficient, as we are confident that Ayedatiwa will achieve victory,” he asserted.
Okunomo noted that Ayedatiwa has pledged to uphold a credible election and is convinced that his governance style over the past ten months has resonated positively with the electorate.
“APC does not need to compromise the electoral process or manipulate the electoral body to win this election; our popularity and the acceptance of our candidate are undeniable,” he stated.
He claimed that APC has conducted the most impactful political campaigns in the state’s history, having reached all 18 local government areas, even the remote regions.
“Everywhere we have gone, we have witnessed enthusiasm for Ayedatiwa, and we are confident that voters will show their support on Saturday as an expression of their affection for him and the APC,” he said.
Okunomo attributed the PDP’s behavior to the unpopularity of its own candidate and encouraged the party to focus on internal rebuilding instead of making unfounded complaints, especially in light of dissent within their ranks following the governorship primaries.
“I urge the PDP to embrace honor by accepting defeat and reconsidering their participation in the election,” he concluded.
He called upon the citizens of Ondo State to ignore PDP’s allegations and turn out in large numbers on Saturday to vote for the APC and its candidates, Ayedatiwa and Adelami, to further enhance the delivery of democratic dividends.
