Vice President Kashim Shettima has declared that President Bola Tinubu has sanctioned the creation of a new Disaster Relief Fund aimed at bolstering Nigeria’s humanitarian response capabilities.

Shettima made this announcement during the launch of the Humanitarian Supply Chain Management – Partnership for Localisation Project at the Presidential Villa in Abuja, with the vice president being represented by Ibrahim Hadejia, the deputy chief of staff to the president.

The Vice President elaborated that this fund will offer immediate support to disaster-affected individuals across the country while also reinforcing the overarching localisation framework.

“Doing nothing is not an option, as neglecting to tackle these crises at their source will have catastrophic consequences,” he stated.

He emphasized that localisation goes beyond merely involving local actors in humanitarian initiatives; it is essential for fostering a more inclusive and resilient future for Nigeria.

Shettima highlighted that this initiative, in line with the Nigeria Localisation Framework, aims to empower local stakeholders and utilize local resources to meet the country’s escalating humanitarian demands.

He also pointed out that climate change and global economic challenges have exacerbated the nation’s already complex humanitarian landscape.
