1. Pastor Enoch Adeboye, General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG), has credited divine intervention for stabilizing Nigeria’s exchange rate, warning that the naira could have plummeted to ₦10,000 per dollar without God’s assistance.

Speaking during the Special Holy Ghost Congress in Abuja, Adeboye highlighted the role of prayers in averting the naira’s freefall. He reflected on the economic challenges Nigeria faced before President Bola Tinubu’s administration, particularly its reliance on imported fuel despite significant investments in local refineries.

“If we had not prayed, $1 would have been ₦10,000 by now. God stepped in and saved Nigeria,” he stated.

Adeboye criticized the inefficiency of Nigeria’s refineries despite the billions spent on them, emphasizing the irony of importing fuel despite the country’s vast natural resources.

“Before our president came in, everyone knew the major reason for our financial problems was the huge expenditure on importing petrol,” he said. “How can we be importing petrol when we have this resource in abundance here? We spent billions on our refineries, yet they didn’t work, forcing us to continue imports.”

The cleric acknowledged the initial optimism following the removal of fuel subsidies but noted that it soon met resistance from those benefitting from the old system, which contributed to the naira’s rapid decline.

“Then they decided to create problems, and suddenly, the naira began to fall rapidly,” Adeboye explained. “I called on my people to pray, and others joined in. If God hadn’t intervened, $1 would now be about ₦10,000. But God stepped in.”
