Nigerian activist Deji Adeyanju has advised Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara to bravely take on his predecessor, Nyesom Wike. Adeyanju contended that Fubara’s actions would not sway Wike, whom he labeled a totalitarian figure.
Speaking at a press conference in Abuja, Adeyanju emphasized that Wike operates without compromise, arguing that the only viable solution to the crisis in Rivers State is for Fubara to confront him directly.
Adeyanju stated, “Fubara will not be able to do anything that will make Wike back down; he is a totalitarian who does not entertain any middle ground. Wike will not yield, while the governor has made several concessions. The only way forward is for the governor to face him head-on. Wike is uncomfortable with challenges, and once you confront him, he becomes anxious and starts making erratic statements.”
He urged the governor to take a decisive stand, referencing legal precedents that support the idea that politicians who defect lose their seats, as affirmed by the Supreme Court. “They sought a lower court to issue a different ruling on the same issue, which isn’t right.”
“Fubara needs to gather his courage and confront Wike; he is not a deity. Wike’s perceived superiority, with his belief that his words are absolute, needs to be challenged. The same treatment Wike has meted out to his supporters will also be directed at Tinubu; no one is exempt.”
Adeyanju further questioned the narrative that Wike holds significant power within the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP). He remarked, “If I were to seek Wike’s favor as he claimed in an interview, then he must be the oracle that dictates the dynamics within the PDP. So, why hasn’t he positioned himself as the PDP presidential candidate if he truly possesses that level of influence?”
