Barrister Nyesom Wike, the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) minister, has emphasized that the escalating prices of goods will persist unless there is significant investment in infrastructure.

Speaking to reporters following his inspection of the rehabilitation work on the 9-kilometer Paikon Kore – Ibwa road and the Agoma Palace – Radio Nigeria – New Marker road in the Gwagwalada area council, Wike addressed concerns regarding the perceived slow pace of President Bola Tinubu’s reforms and their impact on daily life and commodity prices.

Wike praised the chairmen of the local councils and the community members for their ongoing support of the FCT Administration’s initiatives and for making the most of the available developmental funds.

He stated, “When people claim they haven’t witnessed any improvements, we must ask if those celebrating here are not part of the community. I understand our impatience for immediate results, but we must recognize that real change takes time. For example, the continued rise in commodity prices is a concern.”

He continued, “Consider the state of this road. Without proper infrastructure, it’s no surprise that prices remain high. Once these roads are completed, farmers will have better access to their lands, which will help lower costs. Infrastructure is crucial for revitalizing any economy worldwide. The lack of basic infrastructure has contributed to the challenges we’ve faced in Abuja, and we are committed to expanding our infrastructure to enhance both urban and rural economies.”
