Senate President Godswill Akpabio has announced that the National Assembly’s recent approvals for the establishment of new tertiary institutions across Nigeria are intended to enhance educational accessibility for all citizens.

In unison, both the Senate and the House of Representatives have been actively endorsing the creation of additional tertiary institutions throughout various geopolitical zones in the country.

Akpabio made these remarks during a public hearing held over the weekend, which focused on proposed bills for the establishment of the Federal Polytechnic, Onueke in Ezza South, Ebonyi State, and Alvan Ikoku Federal University of Education in Owerri, Imo State. This event was organized by the Senate Committee on Tertiary Education and TETFund at the National Assembly in Abuja.

The Senate President highlighted that this gathering showcased the collective commitment of the Senate and key stakeholders to promote inclusive and sustainable development through education.

“Education is fundamental to our national advancement, and ensuring its accessibility to all Nigerians, irrespective of their geographic location or economic status, is a top priority for this Senate,” he stated.

He further explained, “In essence, the establishment of more tertiary institutions, especially specialized ones, is aimed at making higher education more attainable for Nigerians.”

Akpabio emphasized that the two bills currently under consideration are designed to bolster Nigeria’s educational framework while broadening opportunities for skill development and intellectual growth.

He reassured that the Senate remains dedicated to legislative efforts that foster fairness, growth, and the overall prosperity of the nation.
