Vice-President Kashim Shettima has expressed his heartfelt condolences for the passing of notable Katsina State figures, former Federal Electoral Commission Executive Secretary Ahmadu Kurfi and former Nigerian Intelligence Agency Director-General Ambassador Ibrahim Zakari. Kurfi, who was 93, and Zakari, who was 81, both recently departed this life.
In a statement released by his spokesperson, Stanley Nkwocha, it was noted that Mr. Shettima visited the families of the two distinguished statesmen in Katsina to pay his respects.
Describing them as the last of their generation’s great leaders, Shettima stated, “We are here at the request of President Bola Tinubu to extend our condolences to the family, the government, and the people of Katsina State following the sad loss of our elder statesman, Alhaji Ahmadu Kurfi, Maradin Katsina.”
Reflecting on Kurfi’s legacy, the Vice-President remarked, “He represents the last of a formidable era. In African folklore, the passing of such an elder signifies the loss of a part of our history. May Allah grant him eternal peace and reward him with Aljannah Firdaus, and may He also provide strength to the family to endure this profound loss.”
During his visit to Zakari’s family, Shettima similarly conveyed, “On behalf of President Tinubu, we extend our sympathies to the family, the Katsina Emirate Council, and the state’s government and citizens regarding the loss of our elder statesman.”
He added, “This is indeed a significant loss, but we must celebrate a life well-lived, one that serves as a model for all of us. May Allah grant him eternal rest and reward him with Aljannah Firdaus, and may He provide comfort to the family, the people, and the government of Katsina, as well as the nation, in this time of grief.”
The Vice-President commended both Kurfi and Zakari for their substantial contributions to Nigeria’s progress.
